Ancien Wines is a boutique winery located in Napa Valley, known for producing around 5,000 cases annually. Established in 1992, the winery initially operated from the historic Haynes Vineyard in Coombsville, focusing on high-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Winemaker Ken Bernard, who has a background in chemistry and experience in both Napa and Chile, sources grapes from cooler regions, including Napa Valley, Sonoma County, and even Oregon. In 2019, the Haynes Vineyard was sold, and Ancien Wines no longer produces wine or hosts tastings there. Their wines are now made at St. Clair Brown Winery in Napa. Ancien is recognized for its unique labels featuring artwork by Jim Hubert, which were updated in 2013. The winery offers a variety of wines, including several Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, showcasing distinct flavor profiles and aging potential. Visitors can taste Ancien wines at Vintner's Collective, a collective tasting room in Napa that features a curated selection of boutique producers. Tastings vary daily and are designed for all levels of wine enthusiasts, providing an opportunity to explore lesser-known labels in a unique setting.
