Backstage Wines, founded by Angelo Perra, is located in Napa Valley, California. Perra, who initially worked in private equity, transitioned to winemaking after a memorable dining experience at age 23. In 2010, he acquired Mountain View Winery and established Backstage Wines two years later. The winery's first vintage was an Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. Backstage Wines operates from an industrial park and moved production in 2023 to the former Andretti Winery. They do not own vineyards but collaborate with small family-owned sites, sourcing grapes from 15 different vineyards. The winery emphasizes small-lot production and meticulous winemaking practices, including limiting oxygen exposure. Backstage Wines is a family-run operation, with Perra's children involved in various roles, including winemaking and sales. The tasting room, located in Larkspur, offers a welcoming environment for visitors. Backstage produces a range of wines, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, showcasing a balance of fruit and complexity. Perra's approach combines single varietal wines with blending techniques, reflecting his continuous learning in winemaking. The winery is known for its unique metal labels, a decision inspired by a past experience with wine donations.
