Barnett Vineyards is situated on a 40-acre property in the Spring Mountain District, approximately 1.5 miles from Spring Mountain Road. Founded in 1983 by Hal and Fiona Barnett, the winery was initially intended as a private retreat rather than a commercial venture. Over the years, they transitioned to winemaking after struggling to sell their grapes, producing their first vintage in 1989 with the help of founding winemaker Kent Rasmussen. The winery focuses on a diverse range of wines, producing around ten different varieties, with a strong emphasis on distinctive terroir. Their flagship wine, Rattlesnake Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, has gained recognition, notably receiving a 96-point score from wine critic Robert Parker. David Tate has been the winemaker since 2007, bringing extensive experience from various regions. Visitors to Barnett Vineyards can enjoy tastings that often start in the barrel room and may move to an observation deck with panoramic views of the Napa Valley. The winery faced challenges from the 2020 Glass Fire, which destroyed a portion of their vineyards, but they have since replanted and continue to produce high-quality wines.
