Benessere Vineyards is situated at the end of Big Tree Road, near St. Helena in Napa Valley. The winery's origins trace back to Charles F. Shaw, who established the original winery on the property in the 1970s. After facing financial difficulties, the property was sold in 1991 and later acquired by John and Ellen Benish in 1995, who revitalized the neglected vineyards. The name "Benessere" translates to "well-being" in Italian, reflecting the winery's focus on Italian varietals. The vineyard spans 43 acres, with 36 acres planted to vines, and is known for its unique offerings, including Sangiovese, Zinfandel, and lesser-known Italian varieties like Sagrantino and Aglianico. Benessere is committed to sustainable practices, holding certifications in Fish Friendly Farming and Napa Green. Visitors can enjoy tastings in a cozy setting, with options to sit indoors or on the patio overlooking the vineyards. The tasting experience features a variety of Italian wines, providing a refreshing alternative to the typical Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Benessere's wines are also reasonably priced and well-distributed in local restaurants, making them accessible to a wider audience.
