Black Cat Vineyard, located in Coombsville, Napa Valley, was established by Tracey Reichow in 1996. After her passing in late 2023, her husband Rick and daughter Samantha continue to manage the winery. Tracey transitioned from a career on the New York Stock Exchange to winemaking after being inspired by Napa Valley during a visit in the early 1980s. She planted her 4-acre estate vineyard with Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, focusing on Rhône-style wines despite initial skepticism about the region's climate. Tracey emphasized hands-on viticulture and winemaking, often referring to her approach as "first-person winemaking." She produced her first commercial vintage in 2004, crafting wines in small lots with meticulous attention to cleanliness and quality. Black Cat Vineyard sources grapes from its estate and other leased vineyards, allowing for a diverse range of wines. The winery produces around 2,500 cases annually, with a direct-to-consumer sales model. Notable wines include the Black Cat Chardonnay and Syrah, both showcasing distinct flavor profiles. The winery is named after a beloved black cat that accompanied the family during their move to Napa.
