Caldwell Vineyard is situated in the Coombsville area, east of Napa, and features a 22,000 square foot cave for wine production. Founded by John Caldwell in 1974, the vineyard initially sold grapes before releasing its first vintage in 1997. The property has a rich history, previously owned by the Kreuzer family since 1876, who transitioned from cattle to dairy farming. Today, Caldwell Vineyard spans 123 acres, with 65 acres planted with diverse grape varieties, including unique ones like Carménère and Tannat. Caldwell specializes in low-production wines, including proprietary blends and varietals, with a focus on quality and distinctiveness. Notable offerings include a balanced Sauvignon Blanc and a unique 100% Carménère, which showcases the grape's complexity. The winery also produces a proprietary red blend called Rocket Science, named humorously to challenge the notion that winemaking is simple. Visitors can enjoy engaging experiences with John Caldwell, known for his captivating stories and vibrant personality. The winery also collaborates with Philippe Gamet to produce Champagne, enhancing its diverse portfolio. Caldwell Vineyard emphasizes quality through careful vineyard management and barrel production, controlling most aspects of its aging process.
