Cathiard Vineyard, located on the lower slopes of the Mayacamas mountains, straddles the Rutherford and St. Helena appellations in Napa Valley. The property has a rich history, originating from a land grant given to Dr. Edward Bale in the 1840s. Over the years, it changed hands multiple times, with significant ownership by the Rennie brothers in the late 19th century, who established one of the first wineries in the state. After Prohibition, the property was acquired by Louis M. Martini in 1933, and later by the Komes family in 1977. In early 2020, the vineyard was sold to Daniel and Florence Cathiard of Bordeaux, France, who aim to elevate the quality of the wines through organic and biodynamic practices. The first vintage was produced in 2020, overseen by interim winemaker Justine Labbé, who joined the team in 2021. The vineyard primarily grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec, with a focus on finesse and balance in their wines. Cathiard Vineyard began offering tastings by reservation in March 2023, providing various guest experiences that showcase their wines and the estate.
