It has a rich family history dating back to the gold mining era of the 1850s, with William Bowers Bourn I establishing roots in California. The current owner, Katie Hayne Simpson, is a direct descendant of Bourn and took over operations in 2012. CHASE Cellars specializes in Zinfandel, primarily sourced from the historic Hayne Vineyard, which features vines over 115 years old. The vineyard is dry-farmed and has been managed by five generations of the Bourn family. Winemaker Russell Bevan, who joined in 2014, emphasizes meticulous vineyard management and produces wines characterized by richness and texture. Visitors can enjoy tastings in a quaint setting adjacent to the winery, although the winery is not designed for large crowds, enhancing its intimate appeal.
