Chimney Rock Winery, located in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley, was established in 1981 by Sheldon "Hack" and Stella Wilson. Hack, a businessman with a diverse background, shifted his focus to winemaking after being inspired by Napa's potential in the late 1970s. The couple initially purchased 180 acres, including a golf course, which Hack later converted for vineyard use. In 2000, the winery was sold to the Terlato Family, who expanded vineyard operations and removed the remaining golf holes. Today, Chimney Rock cultivates approximately 100 acres, primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. The winery emphasizes sustainable practices, utilizing solar energy and recycled water for irrigation. Their winemaking team, led by Elizabeth Vianna, focuses on producing high-quality wines that reflect the estate's diverse microclimates. Chimney Rock offers a range of wines, including a notable Sauvignon Blanc and a dry rosé of Cabernet Franc. The winery provides a welcoming visitor experience, featuring tastings and events in a facility that combines modern design with historical elements. Their wines, particularly the Cabernet Sauvignon, have received acclaim, including recognition in Wine Spectator's Top 100 list.
