Clos Pegase is a contemporary winery located on Dunaweal Lane in northern Napa Valley, known for its striking Greek-style architecture designed by Michael Graves. Established in 1987 by Jan Shrem, the winery has a rich history, with its first vintage produced at Rombauer Vineyards. Shrem, who had a successful publishing career before turning to winemaking, expanded Clos Pegase from 50 to 450 acres, focusing on a blend of open spaces and landscaped gardens. In 2013, the winery was sold to Leslie Rudd and Vintage Wine Estates, and as of 2024, it is owned by Jayson Adair. Clos Pegase features two vineyards in Napa Valley and previously owned the 365-acre Mitsuko’s Vineyard, which was sold in 2019 but continues to supply grapes. Visitors can enjoy various tasting experiences, including guided tours of the winery and its caves, which showcase art and sculptures. The tasting room has shifted to a more personalized approach, emphasizing a relaxed atmosphere. The grounds are well-maintained, with drought-tolerant landscaping and notable art pieces, including a marble Bacchus statue.
