Cornerstone Cellars, established in 1991 in Napa Valley, was founded by two Memphis physicians, Michael Dragutsky and David Sloas. The winery, known for its high-quality red wines, was owned by the Dragutsky family and Memphis investors until its sale to Assemblage Retail Group in 2024. Cornerstone initially gained recognition for its Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from Howell Mountain, where they have maintained long-term contracts with vineyards despite changes in ownership. The winery's focus is primarily on Napa Valley red wines, although they previously produced wines from Oregon's Willamette Valley. Winemaker Kari Auringer, who crafted wines until 2024, emphasizes careful vineyard sourcing and low-yield, high-quality fruit. Cornerstone's wines are typically aged in French oak, with a significant portion being new barrels. Visitors to Cornerstone's tasting room can sample both current releases and older vintages, enhancing their tasting experience. The winery is recognized for its balanced, food-friendly wines, showcasing classic Napa Valley fruit with a vibrant acidity. The portfolio includes notable varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir, reflecting the winery's commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
