Crane Family Vineyards

California, CA

Crane Family Vineyards, located just three miles from downtown Napa, was established by Peter and Frances Crane, with their son Tom Chiarella now managing operations. Peter's interest in winemaking stemmed from a Wall Street Journal article highlighting a successful businessman in the Napa Valley, which inspired him to pursue a vineyard. After relocating to Napa for work, he began developing a vineyard on previously grazed land, planting primarily Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with some Cabernet Franc. The vineyard, named Don Raffaele in honor of Peter's father, has been producing grapes for over 30 years. The winery, built in 1995, is one of Napa's smaller bonded facilities, and while most wines are produced at Laird Family Estate, a dessert wine is crafted on-site. The winery has received numerous accolades, including a double gold medal at the California State Fair. Crane Family Vineyards produces a range of wines, including Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a focus on quality and elegance. The winery does not offer public tastings, and wines are primarily available through a mailing list or select retailers.
