Dakota Shy Winery, located in Napa Valley, was established by Todd Newman and winemaker Tom Garrett, with its first commercial vintage released in 2012. Todd, originally from North Dakota, moved to Napa after studying in Oregon and gaining experience in the wine industry. Tom has deep roots in Napa, with family ties dating back to the 1950s. The winery's name reflects Todd's past as a shy individual, a nickname given by friends during his college years. The winery is situated on a historically significant property that once housed a stagecoach stop and features an original corner stake from the Yountville land grant. Dakota Shy produces a limited range of wines, primarily focusing on Cabernet Sauvignon, while also offering a Sauvignon Blanc and a Rosé. Their wines are crafted from grapes sourced from over 15 premium vineyards across Napa Valley, including hillside locations. Visitors can experience a welcoming atmosphere, with a knowledgeable team that sometimes assists in both hospitality and production. The winery's small-scale operations allow for meticulous attention to detail, ensuring high-quality wine production.
