Dominus Estate, located in Napa Valley, is owned by Christian Moueix, who has a rich history in winemaking that began in France. After studying viticulture and enology at UC Davis in the late 1960s, he partnered with sisters Robin Lail and Marcia Smith to acquire the Napanook Vineyard, which has historical significance dating back to the 1850s. Moueix became the sole proprietor in 1995 and also oversees several wineries in France. The estate focuses on producing high-quality wines, primarily blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, with a commitment to organic and sustainable farming practices. The winery, designed by the Swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron and completed in 1997, features unique gabion walls made of local rock. Dominus Estate produces two main wines: Dominus, known for its ageability and complexity, and Napanook, which is more approachable and food-friendly. Both wines reflect the estate's terroir and meticulous vineyard management. Visitors can expect a stunning architectural experience alongside exceptional wines that embody the motto "Napa terroir, Bordeaux Spirit."
