Dyer Vineyard

Calistoga, CA

Dyer Vineyard, located in Napa Valley, is a small winery spanning just 2.3 acres, operated by husband-and-wife duo Bill and Dawnine Dyer. Both have extensive backgrounds in the wine industry, having started their careers at notable wineries such as Bargetto, Robert Mondavi, and Sterling Vineyards. Bill, who has a master's degree in oenology, was instrumental in developing Sterling's single varietal wines, while Dawnine has a rich history in sparkling wine production and has held leadership roles in various wine organizations. The vineyard, situated on the lower slopes of Diamond Mountain, primarily grows Cabernet Sauvignon (78%), Cabernet Franc (17%), and Petit Verdot (5%). The rocky, gravelly soils and low yields contribute to the quality of their wines, which are known for robust tannins and a focus on quality over quantity. Dyer Vineyard produces limited vintages, typically between 300 to 400 cases, with a primary focus on a Bordeaux-style field blend. Visitors can expect a personalized tasting experience, as the Dyers maintain hands-on control over vineyard management and winemaking. Their wines, characterized by depth and complexity, are available primarily through a mailing list, ensuring exclusivity for enthusiasts.
