The winery is known for its intimate tasting experiences and premium wines, making it a recommended stop for visitors. The estate features a historic stone building that houses the tasting room, which offers a comfortable atmosphere with more casual seating than bar space, enhancing the personalized tasting experience. The winery has a rich history, originally established in 1886 by Bernard Ehlers, a German immigrant. Over the years, the property changed hands multiple times, with notable owners including various reverends and the Leducq family, who purchased it in 1987. Today, Ehlers Estate is owned by the Leducq Foundation, which supports cardiovascular research through proceeds from wine sales and tasting fees. Ehlers Estate farms 39 of its 42 acres organically and biodynamically, producing around 8,000 cases of wine annually. The winery emphasizes indigenous yeast fermentation and has recently introduced innovative practices like a vermiculture system for water recycling. Visitors can enjoy a range of wines, including a Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon and a 100% varietal Sémillon, showcasing the estate's commitment to quality and sustainability.
