Green and Red Vineyard, established in 1977 by Jay Heminway, is located in Chiles Canyon, approximately 20 minutes east of Napa Valley's floor. After Jay's passing in 2019, his wife Pam and daughter Tobin, along with her husband Raymond, took over the winery. The family has a diverse background, with Tobin having worked in film production and Raymond previously serving as General Counsel. The vineyard spans nearly 200 acres, with 31 acres dedicated to grape cultivation, primarily Zinfandel, along with smaller amounts of Sauvignon Blanc, Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Viognier. The property features three distinct vineyards at varying elevations, with the highest, Tip Top, reaching 1,800 feet, making it the highest vineyard in the Chiles Valley sub-appellation. Green and Red Vineyard is notable for its historical significance, with vines originally planted in the 1890s. The winery produces around 6,000 cases annually, focusing on Zinfandel. Visitors can expect a unique tasting experience in a relatively undeveloped area of Napa, characterized by its steep canyons and red hills, which contribute to the vineyard's distinct terroir.
