Groth Winery, established in 1982 by Dennis and Judy Groth in the Oakville district of Napa Valley, is a small to medium-sized winery known for its high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. The Groths initially considered a vineyard in Sonoma County but were captivated by the beauty of Napa Valley, leading them to purchase a 121-acre property already planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Napa Gamay. Their first harvest occurred in 1990 after the winery was built, with winemaker Nils Venge contributing to their early success. The winery has expanded over the years, including a significant renovation in 2007, and also owns the cooler Hillview Vineyard, which produces Chardonnay and Merlot. Groth's wines have received acclaim, notably from Robert Parker, who helped elevate their profile in the 1980s. The winery emphasizes sustainable farming practices and features an insectary to promote beneficial insects. Visitors can enjoy tastings and guided tours, which require advance reservations. The winery's distinctive salmon-colored building is a notable landmark in the area, and Suzanne Groth, the founders' daughter, currently serves as president and CEO.
