Hesperian Wines

Napa, CA

Hesperian Wines, located in Napa Valley and owned by winemaker Philippe Langner, specializes in small-lot, single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Philippe's diverse international background includes living on five continents, with significant time spent in El Salvador, Bangladesh, Colombia, and Africa. He studied at UC Davis, earning dual master's degrees in Agronomy and Agricultural Economics, before transitioning to the wine industry at Château Clarke in Bordeaux, where he gained extensive experience. Philippe's vineyard, Kitoko, spans 40 acres on Atlas Peak, characterized by rocky terrain that yields low grape production, often under two tons per acre. He also sources grapes from two additional vineyards. Hesperian Wines focuses exclusively on Cabernet Sauvignon, emphasizing vineyard-driven winemaking without blending. The winery produces approximately 1,000 cases annually, with wines available in select markets and local retailers. Philippe is developing an underground winery on his property, which will offer tastings by appointment for serious wine enthusiasts. Hesperian Wines aims to reflect the terroir of Napa Valley, with a name inspired by Greek mythology that signifies its western location.
