Hess Persson Estates, located in the Mt. Veeder sub-appellation of Napa Valley, was founded by Swiss businessman Donald Hess and his wife Ursula. The winery opened to the public in 1989, although its first wine release was in 1976. The estate has a rich history, with vineyards planted as early as 1864. The property was previously known as the Hess Collection until a name change in 2021. Donald Hess, who passed away in early 2023, had a diverse background in business, including founding a successful mineral water company in Switzerland. His family also owns two wineries in Argentina and several vineyards in California. Today, the winery is managed by his stepdaughter Sabrina and her husband Tim Persson. Hess Persson Estates is renowned for its extensive contemporary art collection, which is one of the largest among Napa wineries. Visitors can enjoy self-guided tours of the art galleries, which feature eclectic pieces. The winery produces around one million cases of wine annually, with a focus on Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, while also offering limited production wines available exclusively at the estate.
