Hourglass Winery

Calistoga, CA

$125

Hourglass Wine, established in 1997, is located just north of St. Helena in Napa Valley. The winery is owned by Jeff and Carolyn Smith, whose family has been in the region since the mid-1960s. They initially produced wine from the 4-acre Hourglass Vineyard, acquired in 1975, and later expanded with the Blueline Vineyard in Calistoga, purchased in 2006. The Smith family has a rich history in Napa Valley real estate, with Jeff's father, Ned Smith, playing a pivotal role in the region's development. After taking over vineyard management in the early 1990s, Jeff replanted the Hourglass Vineyard entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon due to phylloxera, while also emphasizing the importance of terroir and geology in winemaking. Hourglass wines are known for their dark, structured profiles and excellent aging potential. The winery produces a variety of wines, including a Sauvignon Blanc and several Cabernet Sauvignons, all showcasing the unique characteristics of their vineyards. The visitor experience is enhanced by a state-of-the-art cave winery designed for optimal functionality, reflecting the winery's commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
