Howell at the Moon is a winery located in the Howell Mountain Appellation of Napa Valley, owned by Marc Cohen, a retired doctor who has been passionate about wine since the 1970s. After retiring from his medical career, Cohen purchased a 21-acre property in the hills above Angwin in 2000, where he developed a vineyard surrounded by native vegetation. The winery's name reflects its remote, forested location, and features a label inspired by his Jack Russell Terrier, Tysie. The winery initially focused on producing estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, with its first vintage released in 2003. After selling the property to Clif Family Winery, Cohen began sourcing grapes from other regions, including Mt. Veeder. The wines are characterized by a softer style, influenced by specific clonal selections and vineyard management by the respected Pina family. Howell at the Moon wines are primarily marketed in New York City, with limited availability in Napa. They participate in consumer events and have been a member of the Howell Mountain Appellation since 2005. The wines are noted for their rich fruit flavors and complexity, making them appealing to enthusiasts.
