Impensata Wine, located on Howell Mountain in Napa Valley, was founded by Louis Ciminelli, who has a background in construction and a passion for Italian wines. The winery's inaugural vintage was released in 2017, with the name "Impensata" reflecting the Italian concept of an unexpected surprise. Ciminelli acquired a 40-acre property in 2014 and partnered with renowned viticulturist David Abreu to develop the vineyard, which now includes 15 acres planted with varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sémillon. Impensata produces a range of wines, including a Sauvignon Blanc from their Ciminelli Vineyard and a Proprietary Red from Engelhard Vineyard, showcasing complex flavors and aging potential. Winemaker Nigel Kinsman collaborates with master blender Michele Rolland to craft the wines, which are characterized by their balance and depth. Visitors can taste Impensata wines by appointment at Wheeler Farms, where they can enjoy a customized tasting experience. The winery sells its wines directly to consumers through an allocation list, with a total production of around 1,000 cases per year. Impensata also participates in charity events to support Alzheimer’s research.
