Kanpai Wines is a collaboration between Peter Chiang and Azumi Kubo, who purchased the historic Meadowbrook Estate in Napa Valley's Oak Knoll District in 2017, and winemaker Steve Matthiasson. The estate, previously supplying grapes to notable wineries like Robert Mondavi and Opus One, shifted focus to creating their own wines after wildfires disrupted grape sales. The estate spans 27 acres, with 20 acres dedicated to organically farmed vines, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and a smaller block of Cabernet Franc. Kanpai's wine offerings include a rosé made from Cabernet Sauvignon and a sushi-friendly Chardonnay, both crafted with a focus on food compatibility. Their red blend, Kikari No Hana, combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, while their Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon showcases a balance of complexity and drinkability. Visitors can taste Kanpai wines at Vintner's Collective, a curated tasting room in Napa, which features a rotating selection of wines from small producers. The tasting experience is designed to cater to various levels of wine interest, with options for private tastings. The venue also includes unique features like an indoor koi pond and a private karaoke room, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
