Karl Lawrence Cellars

St. Helena, CA

Karl Lawrence Cellars, located in Napa Valley, was established in 1991 by Ric and Bryan Henry alongside winemaker Michael Trujillo, who left the winery in 2009. Initially, the partners produced wine in a garage, with their first commercial release following shortly after their founding. Currently, Ric and his wife Cheryl are the sole owners. The winery has shifted its vineyard sources over the years, consistently selecting premium sites, including the historic Fig Tree Vineyard and Pocai Vineyard, both owned by the Ballentine family. Under the guidance of winemaker Bruce Devlin, who joined in 2010, Karl Lawrence focuses primarily on crafting balanced, ripe, and plush Cabernet Sauvignon wines. The winery's philosophy emphasizes producing wines that are enjoyable when young but also capable of aging well. Visitors often find Ric approachable and personable, fostering a friendly atmosphere that encourages word-of-mouth marketing. The winery's history is intertwined with the Henry family's legacy in the region, particularly through their former ownership of Henry Brothers' Ranch. Overall, Karl Lawrence Cellars is recognized for its quality wines and a welcoming tasting experience.
