Lithology, previously known as Alejandro Bulgheroni Estate, is located in the Vaca mountain range near St. Helena, California. Founded by Argentinian entrepreneur Alejandro Bulgheroni, the winery was established after he acquired a 15-acre property from Bill Harlan in 2016. This site, characterized by rocky and steep terrain, includes a small existing vineyard originally planted in 1975. The winery has undergone renovations to support small-lot fermentation, utilizing various fermentation vessels and high-quality barrels. Under the guidance of winemaker Philippe Melka and consulting enologist Michel Rolland, Lithology produces a limited selection of red wines, focusing on Cabernet Sauvignon. Their inaugural releases in 2014 received acclaim for their quality. The winery's name reflects its geological roots, tying into Bulgheroni's background in oil and gas. Visitors can experience Lithology wines at their tasting room, which opened in downtown Napa in April 2022. The winery's production is under 1,000 cases annually, emphasizing meticulous craftsmanship and a connection to the unique terroir of Napa Valley.
