Louis M. Martini Winery, located south of St. Helena in Napa Valley, was founded by Louis M. Martini in 1933. Martini, originally from the Italian Riviera, immigrated to the U.S. at age 12 and began making wine with his father in San Francisco. During Prohibition, he pivoted to producing medicinal and sacramental wines, establishing a significant operation in Kingsburg, California. The winery in Napa was the first to be built after Prohibition, initially serving as a satellite for the Kingsburg operations. The winery has a rich history, including Louis M. Martini's involvement in founding the Napa Valley Vintners Association in 1944 and the Napa Valley Wine Library Association in 1963. The winery was sold to Gallo in 2002, retaining key family members in its operations. Over the years, the Martini family has been influential in Napa Valley, contributing to vineyard management innovations and producing notable wines, including early varietals of Merlot and Pinot Noir. Visitors can expect a historical experience at Louis M. Martini Winery, which remains one of Napa's oldest continuously operating wineries, reflecting its long-standing heritage in the wine industry.
