Macauley Vineyard, established in 1984 by Ann Macauley, is located just north of St. Helena, Napa Valley. Initially focused on a late harvest Sauternes-style Sauvignon Blanc, the vineyard has evolved under the ownership of David and Susan Sabina. Following Ann's untimely death, winemaker Jeff Sowells continued her legacy, and her son Mac eventually reconnected with Sowells to revive the brand. Mac, who grew up in the wine industry, returned to Napa in 2000 and has since focused on producing premium wines, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, with Kirk Venge as the winemaker. Macauley Vineyard emphasizes quality vineyard sourcing, often entering long-term contracts to ensure consistency. They produce limited quantities of wine, typically several hundred cases per vintage, and utilize custom equipment for their winemaking processes. The winery's tasting room, opened in 2019 in downtown St. Helena, offers personalized tastings by appointment. Visitors can find Macauley wines at select local restaurants or through their mailing list. The vineyard also produces a rare Bacigalupi Chardonnay and a notable Old Vines Zinfandel sourced from historic vineyards.
