MACDONALD is a relatively new winery in Napa Valley, with roots dating back to 1954 when the MacDonald family first acquired land in the region. Their vineyard, To Kalon, has a rich history, originally established in 1868 and known for its diverse grape varieties. The vineyard has undergone various transformations over the years, including a shift from wine production to cherries during the phylloxera crisis and a temporary closure during Prohibition. Today, the MacDonald family manages 15 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon vines, some of the oldest in Napa County, emphasizing traditional farming practices and vine health. Graeme MacDonald, the winemaker and vineyard manager, is dedicated to preserving the vineyard's heritage while producing high-quality wines. The winery's production has grown from small quantities in 2008 to around 500-600 cases annually. Visitors can expect a focus on minimalistic yet detail-oriented winemaking, with wines crafted to reflect the unique terroir of the To Kalon vineyard. The wines are currently produced at Mending Wall Winery, following earlier collaborations with Kongsgaard Winery.
