Madonna Estate is situated in the Napa Los Carneros AVA, adjacent to Highway 12. The winery is owned by the Bartolucci family, one of Napa Valley's oldest winemaking families, with roots tracing back to 1913 when Andrea Bartolucci immigrated from Italy. The family faced numerous challenges during Prohibition but adapted by producing sacramental wine and selling grapes to home winemakers. After Prohibition, they resumed winemaking and eventually sold their original Oakville property in 1975. The Bartolucci family relocated to Carneros, purchasing 160 acres of pasture land, where they planted a variety of grapes, including Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which are predominant in their vineyard. Madonna Estate is known for its diverse wine offerings, including unique varieties like Gewürztraminer and Dolcetto, and produces around 10,000 cases annually, primarily sold directly to visitors. The winery emphasizes organic farming practices and has been certified since 1991. The tasting room opened in 1981, providing visitors with a chance to sample their wines, which are characterized by lower alcohol levels and good value. The estate's scenic vineyard offers views of the San Pablo Bay and the San Francisco skyline, enhancing the visitor experience.
