Martin Estate is a small winery situated in the Rutherford district of Napa Valley, specifically off Conn Valley Road. Originally founded in 1887 as H. H. Harris Cellars by Henry Harrison Harris, a notable local figure, the winery has a rich history. Harris initially grew grapes before establishing his winery, which has seen various ownerships over the years, including a notable lease by Georges de Latour for Beaulieu Vineyards in the early 1900s. The current owners, Greg and Petra Martin, purchased the property in 1996, aiming to create a rural retreat. They renovated the estate and began winemaking, with their first commercial vintage produced in 2001 after a 90-year hiatus. The estate spans 12 acres, with 8 acres dedicated to Cabernet Sauvignon and smaller amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Their primary wines include the Bacchanal blend and Martin Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, along with a unique rosé and a dessert wine made from Botrytis-affected grapes. Visitors can expect a personalized tasting experience, as the Martins are deeply involved in the winemaking process, emphasizing quality and detail in their production methods.
