Materra Cunat Family Vineyards, established in 2007 by the Cunat family in Napa Valley's Oak Knoll District, spans 45 acres and focuses primarily on Merlot. The family, including Brian, John, and Miki, purchased the property from the Jaeger family, with the vineyard originally planted entirely to Merlot. Since then, they have diversified their plantings to include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Malbec, and Syrah. The winery, which completed its facilities in 2015, also serves as a custom crush site for other producers. Brian Cunat, who has a background in agriculture and real estate, oversees the winery alongside his family. Their daughter Neena initially managed operations but has since transitioned to photography, while Harry Heitz now serves as General Manager. The winery employs advanced winemaking technology and practices sustainable farming in collaboration with local growers. Materra produces a range of wines, including a unique Japanese Series, paying homage to Miki's heritage. Their wines are characterized by balance, freshness, and a focus on varietal expression, appealing to a diverse palate. The visitor experience includes educational opportunities through a demonstration vineyard.
