Mayacamas Vineyards, situated in the Mayacamas mountains west of Napa Valley near Mt. Veeder, is a historic winery established in 1889 by German immigrant John Henry Fisher. The 475-acre estate features 49 acres of vineyards planted at elevations ranging from 1,800 to 2,400 feet, with some of the highest Sauvignon Blanc vines in Napa Valley. The property is certified organic and employs dry farming techniques, supported by the region's ample rainfall. The vineyard primarily produces Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, along with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, and Grenache. The winery has a rich history, including ownership changes and Prohibition-era bootlegging. The Taylors, who acquired the property in 1941, were the first to plant Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, and they emphasized organic farming practices. The winery's label features a stylized 'M' and has a tradition of listing high percentages of varietals in their blends. Mayacamas Vineyards is recognized for its low yields and unique terroir, characterized by rocky soils and diverse vine ages. Visitors can appreciate the scenic views and the winery's historical significance, making it a notable destination in Napa Valley.
