Orin Swift Cellars, established in 1998 by winemaker Dave Phinney at the age of 24, is located in St. Helena, Napa Valley. The winery's name honors Phinney's parents, combining his father's middle name, Orin, and his mother's maiden name, Swift. Initially a part-time venture while working at other wineries, Orin Swift quickly gained recognition, particularly for its flagship wine, "The Prisoner." In 2010, Phinney sold the Prisoner label, which was later acquired by Constellation Brands in 2016. That same year, GALLO purchased Orin Swift, with Phinney remaining involved in a consulting capacity. The winery sources grapes from over 100 vineyards across California, producing a variety of wines, including blends like "Eight Years in the Desert," "Mercury Head," and "Papillon." The tasting room, located in downtown St. Helena, offers various tasting experiences, including a barrel room at Louis Martini Winery. The space has undergone renovations, maintaining a minimalist aesthetic while providing a unique atmosphere for visitors. Orin Swift Cellars is known for its creative labels and high-quality wines, appealing to both casual wine drinkers and collectors alike.
