Pope Valley Winery is situated in the less-traveled Pope Valley, approximately 30 minutes from the Silverado Trail. Established in 1897 by Ed and Bertha Haus as the Burgundy Winery & Olive Oil Factory, it is one of the few visitable wineries in this rural area, which features narrow, winding roads and a tranquil atmosphere. The winery has a rich history, including its operation during Prohibition, where it secretly supplied wine to Chicago's speakeasies. The winery is currently owned by the Eakle family, who purchased it in 1997 and have maintained its historical significance. The property spans 36 acres, with 5 acres dedicated to vineyards, primarily growing Cabernet Sauvignon and old vine Zinfandel. The tasting room offers a relaxed experience with friendly staff and a selection of wines that have received accolades in various competitions. Visitors can explore the historic winery and its unique cellar, which dates back to 1909, and enjoy a diverse range of reasonably priced wines. The winery's commitment to preserving its heritage and providing a welcoming atmosphere makes it a noteworthy destination in Napa Valley.
