Progeny Winery, located on Mt. Veeder in Napa Valley, was established in 2007 by Betty and Paul Woolls after acquiring a historic cattle ranch that had been in the same family since 1885. The property spans over 230 acres, previously used as pastureland, and the Woolls planted 32 acres of vines in 2009/2010, with their first harvest occurring in 2012. The vineyard focuses on Bordeaux varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, as well as lesser-known varieties like Saint-Macaire and Carménère, and unique Rhône varietals. The winery features a modern facility designed by Juancarlos Fernandez, completed in time for the 2016 harvest, and includes a hospitality center that opened in 2017. Progeny offers tasting experiences by appointment, showcasing their wines alongside small bites prepared by an estate chef. Their annual production is around 2,000 cases, and they are part of the Mercury Wine Syndicate, a network of boutique Napa wineries. The Woolls are also noted for their philanthropic contributions to local healthcare.
