RD Winery, established in 2010 by Vietnamese entrepreneur Mr. Nguyen Van Dong, is notable for being the first Vietnamese-owned winery in Napa Valley. Inspired by his visit to the region, Mr. Van Dong, who has a significant background in infrastructure and real estate in Vietnam, purchased the former Hakusan Sake Gardens production facility in 2011. The winery spans 25,000 square feet and serves both RD's wine production and as a custom crush facility for other producers. Following a major remodel in 2019, the tasting room opened in 2020, featuring contemporary decor with an Asian influence and artwork from Vietnam. Visitors can enjoy tastings indoors or on the outdoor patio overlooking the gardens. RD Winery initially focused on exporting wines to Vietnam but shifted to the domestic market in 2018, introducing various brands like Fifth Moon and Hundred Knot, which emphasize quality and unique varietals. The winery employs modern winemaking techniques and equipment, producing a range of wines, including Riesling, Chardonnay, and Grüner Veltliner, known for their balance and food-friendliness. RD Winery continues to thrive, offering a diverse selection of wines while maintaining a connection to its Vietnamese heritage.
