Riverain Winery, located in Napa Valley, was established in 2011 by friends Steve Nordhoff, Dean Gray, and Laurie Gray. The winery began with a Cabernet Sauvignon from Tench Vineyard in Oakville and a Syrah from Cardiac Hill Vineyard in Sonoma County. Riverain maintains a small production of around 500 to 600 cases annually, expanding its offerings to include Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Scott Gray, Dean's son, represents the brand in Napa Valley, having gained experience working with renowned winemaker Thomas Brown. Brown, a highly sought-after consultant in the region, has played a significant role in Riverain's winemaking. The winery's Sauvignon Blanc is noted for its bright, tropical fruit flavors and refreshing acidity, making it an ideal pairing for seafood. The Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced exclusively from Tench Vineyard, showcases a balance of ripeness and elegance, with a focus on ageability. Riverain primarily sells its wines directly to consumers, with private tastings hosted by Scott at Mending Wall Winery, allowing visitors to experience both current and older vintages.
