Road 31 Wine Co, previously known as Green Truck Cellars, is a small winery located in Napa Valley, owned and operated by Kent Fortner. Kent is a one-man operation, handling vineyard management, winemaking, and sales himself. Since 2001, he has produced a limited annual release of Napa Valley Pinot Noir, primarily sold through a quickly filled mailing list. The wine is sourced from vineyards in the cooler Carneros region, specifically Green Island Vineyard and Stanly Ranch, with production typically around 700 cases. Green Island Vineyard, situated south of Napa, benefits from the cooling effects of the nearby San Pablo Bay, while Stanly Ranch, with a history dating back to the mid-1800s, is slightly warmer yet still influenced by the bay's climate. Kent's winemaking philosophy emphasizes the unique characteristics of these cooler sites, sourcing various Pinot Noir clones. Tastings are informal and held at White Rock Vineyards, where visitors can sample barrel samples and bottled vintages. Kent's approachable style and the winery's unique name, inspired by a gravel road in Kansas, reflect his personal connection to the land and his journey to winemaking.
