ROAM Napa Valley, founded by winemaker Mario Sculatti, is located in Napa Valley, where Mario's family has been involved in agriculture since 1901. His father, Ron Sculatti, contributed to the creation of the acclaimed 1973 Chateau Montelena vintage, and the winery's name honors Roam Steineke, a close family friend. Mario sources grapes from three key vineyards: Sleeping Lady, Xaga, and Muir-Hannah, with long-term contracts in place. Mario's winemaking skills were honed under the mentorship of Denis Malbec, who greatly influenced his approach to barrel selection and blending. ROAM's wine style emphasizes small-lot production, focusing on balanced wines with distinct fruit profiles. The Chardonnay, sourced from Muir-Hannah, showcases stone fruit and citrus aromas, while the red wines, particularly from Sleeping Lady, exhibit rich fruit flavors and aging potential. In addition to ROAM, Mario launched the SCULATTI brand in 2025, featuring the Obsidian Springs Cabernet Sauvignon. ROAM wines are made at Wheeler Farms which you can visit by appointment. The Rutherford Wine Vault, a partnership with John Franks, offers secure wine storage and a historical setting for wine enthusiasts, enhancing the visitor experience in Napa Valley.
