Saintsbury Winery, established in 1981 by Richard Ward and David Graves, is located in Napa Valley and remains family-owned. Both founders met during their Enology studies at UC Davis and shared a passion for Burgundian wines. Before launching their winery, they gained experience at various Napa Valley wineries. Initially, they produced wine at Pine Ridge Winery and later built their own facility on previously grazing land. Saintsbury focuses primarily on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, producing around 10,000 cases annually, down from a peak of over 60,000 cases. The winery is known for its approachable and personalized tasting experiences, set in a casual environment without elaborate décor. Visitors can enjoy tastings outdoors under trees or in a simple tasting room. The winery is named after George Saintsbury, a notable English professor and wine writer. Saintsbury offers a range of wines, including unique varietals like Mencía and a pétillant naturel. Their commitment to quality is evident in their vineyard practices and the careful selection of grapes sourced from Carneros and other regions.
