Second Line Wines, founded by Chris Agan in 2017, is located in Napa Valley. Chris, a former U.S. Navy member and Lockheed Martin employee, developed a passion for winemaking after frequent visits to Napa. He completed a wine certificate program at UC Davis and gained experience at Joseph Phelps and Relic Cellars before launching his own label. The winery produces a variety of wines, including Albariño, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, showcasing a focus on balanced flavors and unique textures. Notable offerings include the 2022 Albariño, praised for its bright acidity and creamy texture, and the 2019 Syrah, which features dark fruit and spicy notes. The Cabernet Sauvignon, named "Big Chief" in homage to New Orleans culture, emphasizes varietal characteristics with minimal oak influence. Visitors can taste Second Line wines at The Wine Thief tasting room in downtown Napa, where walk-ins are welcome, and private tastings can be arranged. Chris and his wife TC also operate Lagniappe Wine Tours, focusing on lesser-known wineries in the region. The winery produces around 800 cases annually and has selective distribution in Louisiana and local Napa merchants.
