Shibumi Knoll Vineyards, located north of St. Helena in Napa Valley, was established by Don and Joann Ross in 2005. Don, a former NASA engineer, and Joann, who worked in television and telecommunications, moved to Napa from La Jolla in 2003. They purchased a two-acre property that included a winery and stunning views of the valley. Their estate vineyard is primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, but their first wine was a Chardonnay sourced from the Buena Tierra Vineyard in Sonoma County, which gained significant acclaim, receiving a 97-point rating from Wine Spectator. The winery is known for its balanced wines, with Thomas Brown as the winemaker since 2010. Shibumi Knoll produces a range of wines, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a focus on quality and complexity. The tasting experience is now offered at Royal We Wines in St. Helena, where visitors can enjoy tastings by appointment or walk-in. The winery continues to evolve, sourcing grapes from various vineyards as their original vines age.
