Sky Vineyards

Glen Ellen, CA

Sky Vineyards is situated at an elevation of approximately 2,100 feet in the Mayacamas mountain range, close to the Sonoma County line, making it one of Napa County's highest vineyards. Founded by Lore Olds, who has lived on the property since 1972, the winery began commercial production in 1979, making it the second oldest in the area. Lore's background in farming and winemaking includes experiences in New Mexico and working at Mayacamas Winery. The winery is remote, accessible only via narrow, winding roads, and is open by appointment, catering primarily to serious wine enthusiasts. Sky Vineyards specializes in small-lot, hand-crafted Zinfandel and Syrah, with sustainable farming practices and dry farming techniques employed. The vineyard, initially planted in 1973, has evolved over the years, now featuring 12-14 acres of hillside vines. Winemaking at Sky is traditional and hands-on, with fermentation occurring in open-top bins and aging in neutral French oak barrels. The winery's rustic charm and Lore's dedication contribute to its unique character, offering distinctive wines that reflect the vineyard's terroir.
