Stags' Leap Winery, established in 1893, is a historic winery located off the Silverado Trail in Napa Valley. Originally founded by Horace Blanchard Chase and his wife Mary, the winery has a rich history marked by financial difficulties and changes in ownership. In 1970, Carl Doumani and his wife Joanne acquired the property, revitalizing it after years of neglect. Doumani initially aimed to create an inn and restaurant but shifted focus to winemaking, establishing Petite Sirah as their flagship wine. Today, the winery is part of Treasury Wine Estates and produces a variety of red and white wines, including aromatic Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. The estate spans 240 acres, with 90 acres dedicated to vineyards situated on the rocky slopes of the Palisades. The winery's picturesque grey-stone building is notable for its ivy-covered turret and has appeared in various films and television shows. Although the winery is not open for walk-in visits, it is regarded as one of Napa's grand historic estates. The winery's motto, "Ne Cede Malis," reflects its resilience, and the property features a beautiful Moon Garden, enhancing its appeal to visitors during the blooming season.
