Tedeschi Family Winery, located just north of downtown Calistoga, was established by Emil Tedeschi, with its first vintage produced in 2003 from a 1.5-acre dry-farmed vineyard. Originally planted entirely with Cabernet Sauvignon, the vineyard has since been replanted to include both Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, contributing to the winery's limited production of 100% varietal estate wines. As the oldest active bonded winery in Calistoga, the Tedeschi family has deep roots in the area, having immigrated from northern Italy in 1918. The winery emphasizes a restrained wine style, focusing on lower alcohol levels and the pure expression of the vineyard. Their winemaking process includes extended aging in mostly neutral oak barrels, allowing the wines to pair well with food. Visitors can expect a unique tasting experience, starting with reds and concluding with lighter whites. The winery produces a variety of wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and Valdiguié, showcasing a range of flavors and styles. The Tedeschi family remains actively involved, with Emil's children contributing to winemaking and management, ensuring the winery's legacy continues.
