TEXTBOOK Napa Valley, established in 2004 by Jonathan and Susan Pey, focuses on producing high-quality wines from Napa Valley, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon. Jonathan's early exposure to wine culture in France influenced his winemaking philosophy, which emphasizes balance and elegance over power. Initially, he and Susan grew grapes in Marin County before shifting their focus to Napa Valley, specifically Oakville, where they source grapes from notable vineyards like Vyborny Vineyard. The winery's name reflects Jonathan's vision of creating classic Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, aiming to showcase its varietal expression. TEXTBOOK has expanded its offerings over the years, producing wines such as Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot, while maintaining a commitment to financial prudence and gradual growth. In 2019, Jonathan sold the winery to Distinguished Vineyards & Wine Partners, although he remains involved in winemaking and vineyard sourcing. TEXTBOOK wines are characterized by their vibrant flavors and balanced profiles, with a focus on early grape picking to enhance brightness. The wines are now distributed in select markets, including Whole Foods, and have gained recognition for their quality and approachability.
