The Prisoner Wine Company, located in Rutherford, Napa Valley, was founded by winemaker Dave Phinney, who initially released its flagship wine in 2000. After selling the brand to Huneeus Vintners in 2010, production expanded significantly, and it was later acquired by Constellation Brands in 2016. The winery sources grapes from over 130 vineyards in Napa Valley and additional sites in neighboring counties, emphasizing partnerships with small family-owned vineyards. The hospitality center, opened in November 2018 after extensive renovations of the former Franciscan Winery, offers a modern tasting experience. Visitors can enjoy various wines, including the flagship Prisoner blend, known for its creative packaging and fruit-forward profiles. The tasting room features a new annex for SALDO wines, which opened in September 2023, providing an inviting space for guests. The Prisoner Wine Company also produces several other brands, including SALDO and Unshackled, and engages in community events like The Makery Experience. Tasting experiences are available for walk-ins, while some require appointments, and visitors can learn more through their website.
