Calistoga, CA

$195 - $250

The Vineyardist is a historic winery located in Napa Valley, with its original vineyards planted in the early 1880s by Danish shipping captain Lorenz Petersen. After a series of financial setbacks, wine production ceased in 1919 due to Prohibition, and the land transitioned to growing walnuts and prunes. The property, originally known as the Petersen Ranch, has a rich history involving various family members, including Lorenz’s son, C.L. Petersen, who became a community leader and Methodist minister. In the mid-1980s, the site was transformed into an herb farm, known as Lazy Susan Ranch, which gained recognition for its organic produce. In 2000, Dirk Fulton and Becky Kukkola purchased the property, initiating a vineyard revival. They now farm 24 acres of organic vines, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, and produce a small selection of wines, including a Sauvignon Blanc. The winery emphasizes quality, with wines aged in new French oak barrels and a focus on distinct varietal expressions. The Vineyardist offers a unique tasting experience, showcasing its commitment to organic farming and high-quality wine production.
