Trefethen Family Vineyards is a historic winery situated in the Oak Knoll district of Napa Valley, located between Napa and Yountville. Established in 1968 by Eugene and Katie Trefethen, the winery occupies a site with a rich winemaking history dating back to 1851. The Trefethens have cultivated a diverse range of varietals, notably Riesling, which they have produced for over 35 years, making them one of the largest Riesling growers in Napa Valley. The winery is known for its commitment to sustainable farming practices and manages its vineyards internally. Trefethen's estate spans 400 acres, with an additional 150 acres in the nearby hills. The winery building, designed by architect Hamden McIntyre in 1886, is one of the few surviving wooden gravity flow wineries from the 19th century. Visitors can enjoy a tasting experience that highlights the winery's dedication to quality and terroir. Trefethen produces a variety of wines, including a unique white blend called Quandary and a well-regarded Chardonnay. The winery's long history and focus on quality make it a notable destination in Napa Valley.
